Historiography of Globalization

Main Article Content

Abstract

The article explores foreign and domestic historiography, a field dedicated to studying globalization. It reveals a comprehensive interdisciplinary nature that characterizes the study of globalization processes. In today’s global economy, it is not surprising that a significant body of scientific literature is devoted to globalization's economic and financial aspects. However, it is equally important to study globalization in a historical context. Historical studies of the origins and consequences of globalization are not just interesting, but they are also highly relevant. They can significantly contribute to a better understanding of contemporary globalization processes. The socio-political dimension of globalization, which includes issues such as state sovereignty, global governance perspectives, demography, human rights, global migration flows, democracy, and value aspects of globalization, is a separate but equally important area of study, underscoring its significance in the field of globalization studies. Globalization processes have left their mark on the world’s countries’ external and internal security environment. Therefore, it is not surprising that the security aspects of globalization are at the center of attention of both foreign and Ukrainian researchers. Today, on the one hand, the world remains more connected than ever, thanks to the widespread use of digital technologies. On the other hand, there is a slowdown in world trade due to protectionist policies in some countries. Therefore, scientific works investigating modern globalization trends create a separate research category. Given the above, the article proposes a systematization of historiography, a structured review of existing literature, in the following areas: economic and financial aspects of globalization, history of globalization, socio-political dimension of globalization, security and technological aspects of globalization, and globalization trends.

It is concluded that the study of globalization is crucial for understanding the historical changes that shaped its emergence and evolution. In addition, studying various aspects of globalization is essential to understanding its impact on all spheres of social life, which helps governments make informed decisions in domestic and foreign policy. Considering that the literature on globalization is constantly increasing, it is suggested that Ukrainian scientists continue researching the historiography of globalization in their further explorations.
