Position of Western Countries Regarding Ukraine in the eve the Full-scale Invasion of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022

Abstract
The article brought to the attention of the reader analyzes the positions of various countries of the world on the eve of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since 2014, Ukraine has been in a state of undeclared war with Russia, which led to the occupation of Crimea and part of the territories of Donbas. After that, the war continued to smolder after the signing of the Minsk Agreements in 2015. At the end of 2021, there were signs that the Russian Federation was preparing for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which was publicly announced by US President J. Biden. For several months, the formation of a coalition of Western countries took place with the aim of providing military assistance to Ukraine to prevent the development of the conflict.
The article examines the position of key Western states regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its evolution during this period of time. Ukraine played the role of a catalyst for establishing the unity of the West. An extremely important role in the implementation of the consolidation of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance was played by the US leadership, which used a new approach – the release of intelligence data to influence the enemy's decisions. In addition, the mistakes made by Western countries since 2008, which made Russia’s invasion of Ukraine possible, were analyzed. The article examines the attitude of the population of Ukraine and Russia to the problem based on sociological surveys that confirm the falsity of Russian narratives about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The coverage of the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the Western media on the eve of the invasion was analyzed. The author analyzed V. Putin’s worldview and the reasons for his decision to attack Ukraine. The topic considered in the publication is of great value to the reader in connection with the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war and allows one to understand the circumstances that preceded the invasion.
