Анотація
У статті проаналізовані основні події й розкриті причини формування у США ядерного табу під впливом президента Г. Трумена, ініціатора атомних бомбардувань Хіросіми та Нагасакі. Розглянуто засади і варіанти стримування як окремого випадку стратегії незастосування ядерної зброї. Вказано на позитивні та негативні риси стримування як доктрини та політики. Розглядаються деякі аспекти політики США у сфері нерозповсюдження ядерної зброї, пов’язаної з ядерним табу та спільні зусилля Вашингтона й Москви щодо позбавлення Києва його успадкованого від СРСР ядерного арсеналу у 1991-1996 рр. та дискусії з цього приводу. Показано наслідки порушення «запевнень» Будапештського меморандуму 1994 р. та відсутності засобів стримування російської агресії в без’ядерної України. Увага акцентується на необхідності військово-політичної допомоги Україні з боку США, надання їй відповідної зброї для зміцнення міжнародної безпеки. Зроблено наголос на тому, що ядерна зброя відіграла вирішальну роль у запобіганні третій світовій війні.
